Britemy Signature
Travel Tutors Familiar with Popular Destinations
Britemy travel tutors are adult educators who understand how Indonesian travelers need practical English for real ground situations. We match a tutor suited to your destination and travel style.
Indonesian travelers often panic in a foreign country because they rely on Google Translate, and the app tends to error out on foreign networks or in fast-moving situations. Britemy tutors train you on 200 to 300 core phrases you can always pull from memory, so trips feel calmer and safer.
Map of 12 core travel scenarios
Practice is mapped to 12 scenarios that always appear in a trip: departure airport, immigration, baggage claim, ground transport, hotel check-in, restaurant, cafe, public transport, taxi, market and shopping, museum and tour, emergency.
Ready-to-use phrases per destination
The class adjusts to your destination. A trip to Japan gets a portion on silence culture and bowing etiquette; a trip to America gets tipping and small talk; a trip to the Middle East gets hijab-aware manners and polite bargaining.
Realistic emergency simulation
Four sessions focus specifically on emergency: lost luggage, sickness abroad, lost wallet, missed flight. The tutor pushes with heavy accents or a rushed officer on purpose, so you are ready for less-than-ideal conditions.
Practical cross cultural notes
Cross-cultural tips come through real stories from field experience. You understand why to stay calm in European queues, why to move quietly in Japan, why to be patient bargaining at a Turkish market.
- A1Basic phrases for ordering food and asking directions
- A2Hotel check-in, museum tour questions, polite bargaining
- B1Casual small talk with locals, independent emergency handling
CEFR is the European English level ladder from A1 beginner to C2 mastery. Independent travelers generally feel comfortable between A2 and B1, enough for most situations in English-speaking destinations.
Student Reviews
Stories from Travelers Learning at Britemy
I took the 4-week sprint package before my honeymoon to Italy and France. The tutor helped me memorise cafe phrases, museum phrases, and how to politely bargain at the Florence market. The trip ran smoothly and I could chat casually with a gelato owner in Rome without opening my phone.
I took my wife and mother to Turkey. Before leaving I took 6 weeks of classes focused on airport, hotel, Grand Bazaar market, and cross cultural. Bargaining for souvenirs became fun, and my mother said I looked more confident chatting with the tour guide.
I freelance and hop across Southeast Asian cities. The Britemy class helped me negotiate short apartment leases, join expat community meetups, and handle the situation when my wallet was lost in Ho Chi Minh. Independent travel now feels far more relaxed.
Pronunciation Drill
English Sounds Indonesian Speakers Find Tricky
Eight sounds that most often cause miscommunication for Indonesian English speakers. Britemy sessions train articulation concretely with IPA and minimal pairs, not by chasing native accents.
Voiceless TH
Often swapped with /t/ or /s/
Tongue tip slightly out between upper and lower teeth, breathe out without vocal cord vibration.
Voiced TH
Often swapped with /d/ or /z/
Same tongue position as /θ/, but vibrate vocal cords. Sound is more vibratory and shorter.
V labiodental
Often pronounced /f/ or even /w/
Upper teeth touch inside of lower lip, vibrate vocal cords. Different from /f/ (no vibration), different from /w/ (rounded lips).
Schwa
The most common sound in English but often ignored
Mouth fully relaxed, tongue central, neutral short "uh" sound. Appears in unstressed syllables.
SH vs S
SH often pronounced as S in words like "she"
For /ʃ/: lips slightly rounded and pushed forward, tongue up to palate. For /s/: lips smiling, tongue near teeth.
Short I vs Long EE
Bit vs beat, ship vs sheep often sound the same
For /ɪ/: short, tongue mid-high, mouth less wide. For /iː/: long, tongue front high, mouth in a wide smile.
Short A open
Does not exist in Indonesian, often becomes /e/ or /a/
Open mouth wide as if yawning, tongue front low. Sound is long and "flat".
Ending -ed past tense
Often pronounced "walk-ed" should be "walkt"
After voiceless consonant (walk, kiss): /-t/. After voiced consonant (love, live): /-d/. After /t/ /d/ (want, need): /-ɪd/.
Britemy does not train you to mimic a native accent. What we train: sounds that cause miscommunication (thin becoming tin, ship becoming sheep). After 20-30 consistent sessions, these distinctions become natural.
Method
How Britemy Helps You Travel with More Confidence
Learning English for travel differs from learning general English. What you need is hundreds of ready-to-use phrases plus the courage to say them in unfamiliar situations. The Britemy method focuses on courage first, and phrases stick through repeated roleplay.
Chat about your trip plan
The first session the tutor discusses your trip: destination, duration, travel style (backpacker, family, honeymoon, business plus leisure), and the situations that worry you most. Materials afterward are designed from your plan.
Survival travel phrases per scenario
You practise 30 to 50 ready-to-use phrases per scenario, from airport to emergency. Phrases are drilled in active sentences with tone variations (polite request, casual chat, firm decline), so you have options to fit the mood.
Roleplay of realistic travel situations
The tutor plays an immigration officer, hotel receptionist, restaurant server, taxi driver, market vendor, or museum information staff. You practise in an atmosphere close to the real thing, and the tutor sometimes throws curveballs on purpose (strong foreign accents, unexpected requests).
Destination pronunciation drills
Place names, local foods, and common phrases in each destination have their own pronunciation. The tutor drills you on basic pronunciation of landmark names, popular dishes, and phrases you must be able to say clearly so your listener understands from the first line.
Emergency and problem-solving simulation
You practise handling unwelcome situations: luggage lost at the airport, hotel room problems, falling sick in a foreign country, wallet lost, missing your flight. This simulation lets you know what to say without panic.
Cross cultural notes for the destination
Every destination has different social norms. The tutor shares cross-cultural tips: tipping in America, silence in Japan, bargaining in a Turkish market, warm hospitality in Southeast Asia, and hijab-aware manners in the Middle East. You travel more sensitive to local context.

The tutor plays a slightly rushed airline officer who occasionally asks clarifying questions.
- Which opening line is clearest to report without sounding panicked
- Which details are important to prepare before approaching the counter
- How do you request clothing compensation politely yet firmly

Complete materials are tailored to your destination and trip date during the first session.

CEFR Map
Fluency Conversation Level Map
Fluency conversation has different progress: you can jump to intermediate quickly with frequent practice. The key is courage to speak from session one, accuracy follows.

30-50 hoursYou dare to speak even when grammar is imperfect. Panic mode during greetings disappears.
- Hi, my name is..., pause, continue with 3 sentences about hobbies
- Ordering coffee without pointing at the menu
- Responding to how are you beyond fine, thanks
Small Talk
80-120 hoursYou handle small talk for 5 to 10 minutes on daily topics: weather, hobbies, food, weekend plans.
- 10-minute chats with tourists in Bali
- Spontaneously replying to Slack DMs from foreign colleagues
- Joining expat group conversations at coffee shops
Storytelling
200-250 hoursYou tell 5 to 10 minute experiences with detail, answer follow-up questions without hesitation.
- Telling holiday stories to the team at stand-ups
- Helping foreigners find addresses in Yogyakarta
- Vlogging in English on Instagram
Discussion
350-450 hoursYou discuss abstract topics (politics, social, technology) with structured opinions and arguments.
- Discussing films at English book clubs
- Light debates on Twitter trending topics
- Panel discussions in the Jakarta community
Native-Ish
500-700 hoursYou handle unexpected Q and A, natural humour, and nuanced language (sarcasm, irony) without awkwardness.
- Stand-up comedy open mics in English
- Co-hosting podcasts with native speakers
- Networking at international tech conferences
Fluency level does not always match grammar level. You can speak at B2 with A2 grammar if you practice bravely. Britemy trains courage, accuracy follows naturally.

One tutor per traveler
The 60-minute session belongs entirely to you, with no time shared with other participants. The tutor remembers your destination, travel style, and the situations that make you nervous.
Materials tailored to your destination
The class adjusts to your trip. Japan differs from Turkey, and a honeymoon differs from a solo backpacking trip. We match a tutor suited to your destination.
Ready-to-use phrases that stick
You take home 200 to 300 ready-to-use phrases that stick through repeated roleplay. You do not depend on Google Translate for common situations.
Relaxed schedule any time
Slots open in the morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend, matched to the rhythm of working adults. Rescheduling is allowed at least six hours before the session with no credit deducted, and the session still counts in your monthly package.
Online and in-person classes
Sessions run on Zoom or Google Meet, suited to busy learners. For those based in Greater Jakarta and other major cities, in-person visits are also available.
Realistic emergency simulation
Four sessions focus on emergency simulation: lost luggage, sickness abroad, lost wallet, missed flight. You know what to say without panic.
Practical cross cultural notes
Cross-cultural tips come through real stories, so you understand local context without falling into stereotypes. You travel more sensitive and polite in a foreign country.
Vocabulary Themes
Fluency Vocabulary You Master
Conversation vocab chosen from real everyday situations: cafe, party, travel, chatting with natives. Focus on natural expressions that make you sound fluent, not textbook.
A1 Speak Natural Greetings and Farewells 8 kata
"Hey, what's up? Good to see you again!"
Keeps you unstuck from "Fine, thank you, and you?" so you sound natural from the first sentence.
A2 Speak Fillers and Buying Time 9 kata
"Well, you know, I kind of feel like Bali is overrated, if I'm honest."
Native speakers use fillers to buy time. Keeps you from feeling awkward while thinking.
B1 Speak Opinion Expressions 8 kata
"If you ask me, remote work is here to stay, no doubt about it."
Alternatives to "I think" that are more varied and natural. Makes your discussion sound mature.
B1 Speak Reactions and Interjections 10 kata
"No way, you're kidding! That's absolutely wild."
Natural reactions in casual conversation. Makes you actively engaged, not passive listener.
B2 Speak Storytelling Connectors 8 kata
"So there we were, stuck in a monsoon, and get this, our driver spoke no English."
Natural structure for long stories. Makes your stories engaging, not flat.
C1 Speak Modern Slang and Idioms 10 kata
"That song hits different at 3 AM, no cap."
Lets you relate with Gen Z or Millennial natives, especially on social media or casual podcasts.
You get a vocabulary log per theme. Focus on expressions that naturally appear in sessions, not memorised slang lists from textbooks.
Realistic Progress
What to Expect from Regular Britemy Classes
Travel English progress shows up as concrete changes during your trip, from daring to ask for directions without opening Google Maps to handling an emergency calmly. Tempo varies for every traveler; we guide you up from where you stand today.
Standard length per private session
Common level range for independent travelers
Recommended sprint 4 weeks before the trip
The 4-week sprint package (8 sessions) is enough for A2 travelers preparing a medium trip (7 to 14 days). For long trips over 3 weeks or challenging destinations, a 12-week programme is suggested so destination vocabulary grows thicker.

Native vs Local
Native or Local Tutor for You? Here Is the Honest Comparison
Tutor choice depends on your goals: casual fluency, business English, or test prep. Here is honest per-dimension comparison, without selling mystique.
Truly native accent. Fits if you deal with international clients or aim for expat position.
Clean international accent (C1-C2 CEFR). Alumni from abroad already natural.
Native if specific accent goal. Local sufficient for most business and casual goals.
Native understands cultural nuance (humor, sarcasm, contextual reference) naturally.
Local tutor can bridge Indonesian context to international, important if you handle mixed clients.
Native for practicing pure conversation. Local for bridging cultural context.
Native intuitive, may not explain why. Some with CELTA are OK.
Local tutor good at explaining structure using Bahasa Indonesia reference you understand.
For grammar clinic, local tutor far more effective and efficient.
Native varies. TESOL/CELTA-trained native understands Indonesian learner struggle.
Local tutor generally understands struggle because experienced themselves.
Local more empathic. Native fine if you're already B1+ and dare to speak.
Corporate-experienced native understands industry vocab. Look for ex-executive or MBA.
Local tutor MNC alumni can bridge vocab to Indonesian business context.
Both fit. More important: tutor's industry experience, not native status.
Fee 1.5-2x local. Timezone can be issue.
Affordable fee, same Indonesia timezone. Can evening or weekend sessions.
For long-term consistent weekly sessions, local is more sustainable.
Britemy default recommends TESOL/CELTA/TEFL-certified local tutor for foundation. After you're confident (B1+), request periodic native sessions to polish accent and cultural exposure. This combination balances quality and sustainability.
Britemy does not sell "native speaker" mystique. We sell tutor-match to your goals and learning style. WA for free consultation.
