English competitions have their own rules of play, and judges look for specific things. The Britemy method dissects judge criteria per contest type, then guides you to practise each component separately before joining them in a full simulation toward contest day.

Contest mapping and judge criteria
The first session the tutor explores your target contest: type (debate, speech, story-telling, spelling bee, essay), level (school, city, national, international), format, duration, and the judge criteria the organiser uses. Every material afterward is designed from this map.

This is my first English competition. How long is ideal for preparation?
For school-level contests, 6 to 8 weeks of intensive prep is usually enough at 1 to 2 sessions per week. For city-level and above, we recommend 10 to 12 weeks with intensity rising toward contest day (2 to 3 sessions per week in the final two weeks). This tempo leaves room for framework drills, delivery practice, and full simulation before the contest.
Are Britemy tutors familiar with British Parliamentary debate format?
Yes, some Britemy tutors are familiar with Asian Parliamentary, British Parliamentary, and World Schools Debate. If your contest uses a specific format (for example Karl Popper or Oxford Style), the tutor can study the official rule book with you in early sessions. Before starting the package, we match a tutor profile to your target contest format.
Can sessions run after school hours or on weekends?
Yes. We open afternoon slots from three to eight in the evening and weekend slots across Saturday and Sunday. These slots are set aside so sessions do not clash with school hours, extracurriculars, or try-outs. Rescheduling is allowed at least six hours before the session with no credit deducted, suited to student calendars packed with events.
Does Britemy also prepare for contests that require TOEFL or IELTS scores?
For general English contests (debate, speech, story-telling, essay, spelling bee), Britemy classes are enough. If the international contest you target requires a specific TOEFL or IELTS score (for example some programmes in English-speaking countries), please discuss with Exademy, the test prep brand focused on test-score strategy. Our team helps coordinate across brands.
What if I panic or go blank during the contest?
This is exactly what we train during full simulation and tactical debrief before contest day. The tutor drills recovery techniques: four-second deep breath, anchor to the framework you hold, and bridging sentences to buy thinking time. We also train mental scripts for when the opponent surprises you or the judge throws a sharp question. Mental preparation matters as much as material preparation.
How many sessions per week is ideal during the intensive prep phase?
Early phase (weeks 1 to 4) is enough at 1 to 2 sessions per week to build framework and vocabulary. Mid phase (weeks 5 to 8) rises to 2 sessions per week focused on delivery and rebuttal drills.
